CEREC: Get a Crown in Just One Appointment!

If you are in or near Port Orange and you have a damaged or weak tooth, the team at Smillie Dental offers CEREC same-day crowns to strengthen your oral health in just a few hours. Here’s everything you need to know about CEREC technology and the process of dental crown placement:

Can I Really Get A Crown In Just One Appointment?

The short answer is, “Yes!” CEREC technology and digital x-rays allow Dr. Smillie to quickly assess your smile and the health of your mouth, and create a perfect, ceramic crown to restore your smile in just a single appointment.

This means that you won’t have to worry about getting extra time off of work for two appointments or waiting 2-3 weeks for your crown to be manufactured by an outside lab. You also won’t have to wear an uncomfortable temporary crown while you wait for your permanent one. Everything is done in a single appointment and usually takes less than two hours.

How Does CEREC Work? What’s The Process Like?

To start the process, Dr. Smillie will begin by numbing and cleaning the tooth that will be treated. Then, damaged or decayed tooth enamel will be removed and the tooth will be prepared to provide a solid platform for the crown.

Then, using a specialized powder coating and 3D digital scanner, images are taken of your mouth and sent directly to our in-office CEREC machine. Here, Dr. Smillie will design your dental crown, making adjustments to ensure that it matches your surrounding teeth perfectly.

Once he’s finished building your crown, he will finalize the design. Then, the CEREC machine will use 3D CAD/CAM software to sculpt your crown out of a small, solid block of porcelain. This process usually takes only 15-30 minutes.

Dr. Smillie will check your crown to make sure that it fits properly, and make minor adjustments if necessary. Last, the crown will be bonded into place and polished. You’ll leave our office with a strong, healthy tooth that looks fresh and bright.

Does CEREC Cost More Than A Traditional Crown?

CEREC crowns are usually quite comparable in cost to a traditional crown, especially when you factor in the savings of only coming in for a single appointment and the fact that a temporary crown is not required.
